Description

The 4D Coaster is a winged, trailered train coaster style with a zero car on the rear of the train. The seats are in pairs on each side of the track, mounted to a rack-and-pinion gear system that can rotate them +/- 270 degrees in pitch throughout the circuit. On straight, unbanked track, the trains face backwards relative to the forward direction of travel when not rotated.

This coaster style has a Special Platform (drop floor).

The pitch of the seats is controlled by "guide rails" which are mounted outboard of the running rails and move up and down relative to the running rails as the layout progresses. In NoLimits 2, this is controlled by 4D parameters placed on the track, and the shifting of the guide rails is visually when the coaster is frozen.

Due to the unique controlled rotation aspect of the 4D Coaster, it has two settings in Coaster Properties -> Mode that are not present in other coaster styles. Both of these settings default to 0.

  • 4D Range Offset (Range, -270-270): Applies an offset to the 4D parameters. The ride still has a total of 540 degrees of rotation, but this can be offset.

  • 4D Angle on Transfers: Sets the 4D angle on special tracks which cannot have parameters placed on them.

Trivia

  • The 4D Coaster is most similar to the real-life 4th Dimension Coaster made by S&S Sansei (formerly Arrow Dynamics.)

  • 4D Parameters cannot be read in a script, and objects cannot be attached to the rotating portion of 4D Coaster trains.

  • (Unsourced) It has been said that the 4D trains in NoLimits 2 are larger than they should be.

  • The 4D Coaster was one of several coaster styles that were new to NoLimits 2 upon release.

  • Five of the support prefabs in NoLimits 2 are tailored to the 4D Coaster.
